VIRUS

First of all in choosing an e-mail service, you must consider the presence of a good level and always up-to-date antivirus protection program:
- unfortunately virus spread very quickly; the best antivirus providers can release new versions of the sofware in every moment while good email providers ensure many daily updates to start up, when required, new antivirus patches
- limits: it is important to consider that antivirus can't detect virus hidden in encrypted documents and messages. Virus don't arrive by electronic mail only, so it can be better to have an always updated antivirus program installed on every single workstation.
- in any case the arrest of the virus diffused via email is very useful because this is a strong obstacle to further diffusion of these dangerous and destructive angents.
- we should remember that good antivirus have a certain cost, so we have to be careful from email server providers offering free antivirus software.

SECURITY IN DELIVERY

Basic e-mail programs do not provide reliable instruments in order to guarantee that a message has been delivered to destination.

- there is the possibility to request for a receipt from the manager (Provider) of the addressed account: this receipt does not assure that the message has been delivered to the addressed inbox.
?
- there is also the possibility to ask the adressee to send a "confirmation of opening" for the message: but the mailing of this receipt is left to receiver's discretion and his account settings.

Nowadays the market offers more advanced e-mail programs:

- some systems offer the possibility to send to the adressee a warning (not an email) that requests to go to a page on a determined server in order to read the related message.? When the receiver opens the page of the message, the server sends back to the sender a confirmation that the message has? been opened (is then not said that it has been completely read).

?- finally we mention a particular type of electronic mail, certified mail, developed in order to? guarantee to the sender a receipt officially attesting the delivery of the message at destinatarie inbox.
